Les Misérables (pronounced /leɪ ˌmɪzəˈrɑːb/ or /leɪ ˈmɪzəˌrɑːb/; French pronunciation: [le mizeʁabl(ə)]) is a French historical novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1862, that is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. In the English-speaking world, the novel is usually referred to by its original French title. However, several alternatives have been used, including The Miserables, The Wretched, The Miserable Ones, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, The Victims and The Dispossessed. Beginning in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris, the novel follows the lives and interactions of several characters, particularly the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption.
بینوایان یا بینوایان (به فرانسوی: Les Misérables) نام رمان معروفی نوشتهٔ ویکتور هوگو، نویسندهٔ سرشناس فرانسوی است. این کتاب اولین بار در سال ۱۸۶۲ منتشر شده و یکی از بزرگترین رمان‌های قرن ۱۹ است. در دنیایی که مردم آن انگلیسی صحبت می‌کنند، این رمان معمولاً با عنوان اصلیِ فرانسویِ خود نام برده می‌شود (عناوین مختلفی مثل The Miserable, The Wretched, The Miserable Ones, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor and The Victims, and The Dispossessed نیز دارد). با شروع شورش جون در ۱۸۱۵ و به اوج رسیدن آن در ۱۸۳۲ در پاریس، این رمان از زندگی چند شخصیت و تمرکز بر مبارزات محکوم سابقه‌داری به نام ژان والژان و به رستگاری رسیدن او شکل گرفت.
